Game Report:
Knights vs Reapers
It only seems yesterday that 6 teams battled it out in Week 1 of the season, not knowing what to expect from the other teams and in particular all the rookies. This Sunday saw the first championship game of the leagues history where first seed Knights would face off against second seed Reapers. Both teams thoroughly deserving their spot in this game! Knights had fallen to the Reapers in both their meetings in the regular season however still just managed to take top seed. This was set to be a great and competitive game.
It only seems fitting that the season started and end in the pouring rain. The Knights would opt to start on defence for the first time this season, looking for any advantage they could get to take home the trophy. A tactic that paid off as their stingy defence once again held up strong.
The Knights offence, warmed up from playing D would come out strong with a number of plays to the MVP of the game James Hollis. James would finish the drive on a short pass and turn it into a big gain and a touchdown.
The weather would be a factor from the outset as a pass from Simon King would be intercepted by Elliot Gallienne who returned it to the house for the 6 points. He would also convert the extra point to put the knights into the lead 13-0.
Reapers would not give up easily with a great drive down field, utilising their speed on numerous short plays to all different receivers. Dan Le Cheminant would be the one to punch it in and bring the Reapers within one score.
Both teams would fight hard the whole way through the game however the Knights would fair better in the wet conditions. Continuing to score on offence but more importantly causing havoc on defence as they finish the day with 3 INT’s, 2 of which would be returned to the house.
The Reapers put up a hell of a game and always looked dangerous however the Knights would walk away as champions at the final whistle with a 32-12 victory.
The Committee would like to thank all the players who participated this year and hope you have enjoyed it and will be returning next season. Bring your friends!
