Game Reports:
Raptors vs Mustangs
The first game of the week had the Raptors attempting a 2-0 over their second team this season and the Mustangs playing for pride to get their second win.
Following a quarterback change, things started well for the Raptors and didn’t show any signs of slowing down, with their regular QB Brandon DeChiara stepping down to allow Like Pattimore a chance at glory. The Raptors shone on both sides of the ball as the Mustangs battled to keep the game within reach,. The Raptors struck twice before the Mustangs reached the end zone, Luke Rabey taking a rushing TD and Matt Kershaw catching a well placed ball, when the Mustangs did make the score board, through Dave Middleton’s efforts, Raptors safety James Alderton stole the ball from the conversion sprinted the entire pitch to add to his teams score.
The Raptors continued to fight with Captain Jack Romeril adding another receiving TD to his tally, the Mustangs responded with another TD, this time from Dan Hainsworth, but this would be all they had for the day after failing with the conversion. The Raptors offence took the field before the end of the half with Mike Donaldson taking the ball to the end zone on a dominant 1 and done run.
The second half differed very little from the first with the Raptors refusing to slow down with Luke and Matt both taking another ball into the endzone. With the end of the game nearing, the Raptors threw a curve-ball and gave James a run, somehow avoiding almost the entire Mustangs team and scoring his first rushing touchdown of the season.
Both teams played to their full strengths with good shows on both sides, unfortunately though, this was a day where the Dino’s ate the Horses.
Final score 48-12 to the Raptors.
Knights vs Terrapins
The matchup between the Knights and Terrapins in the last week of the regular season was set up to be a great game between 2 good teams. The Terrapins knowing that a win would guarantee them a place in the playoffs and the Knights although already locking up the No.2 seed the previous week, looked to keep on the heels of the Reapers and stay in the running for the No.1.
The Terrapins showing up with one of the strongest sides that we have seen from them this year would elect to start on defence. A wise decision as Nick Gaudion picked off stand in QB Matt Jackson on the first drive the game. Capitalising on the Turnover, the terrapins would quickly drive down the field and punch in the first points of the game.
With momentum firmly on the side of the Terrapins, the Knights would need to settle down fast if they had wanted to stay in this one.
The Knights would do exactly that with 3 unanswered TD’s through the air, showing the skill and determination that this team has despite losing their starting QB a few weeks prior.
The Terrapins would have a great game on defence with 4 interceptions with one being returned however struggled to get anything else going on offence against the stingy Knights defence.
The game would end 25-12 and leave the Terrapins playoff fate up to the final game of the season
Razorbacks vs Reapers
Week 10’s final game of the week would see the Razorbacks and Reapers play each other. For the first, a win would see them into the playoffs, for the later a win would seal the first seed.
Both teams had built a reputation of solid coverage defences over the season and the start of this game would be no different. Johan Pols would begin a run on defensive stats forcing an interception in the endzone, picking off quarterback Dan Guilbert’s pass.
In near instant one-upmanship, Razorback’s Captain Marcus Lewis would pick off Si King’s pass and run it into the endzone for the first score of the game. In return, Craig Batiste would force a sack on the conversion play. On the following drive the Reapers would respond with Si finding Johan before Marcus returning the favour and sacking Si on the conversion attempt.
Rob Williams would score two touchdowns and a extra point for the Razorbacks and Marcus would also add to his tally with a second pick-six to his tally before the half, giving the Razorbacks a strong lead going into the half.
Reapers would come out at the start of the second half determined to show that they were not done. Craig would run the ball in for the score on their first drive. The second half would mostly see the two teams exchanging points, with Rob securing two more touchdowns and James Williams scoring an extra point for the Razorbacks. Rob, not content on just performing well on offense, would haul in two interceptions in the second half. Nick Schofield would score two touchdowns for the Reapers and Sam Barrell scoring a two point conversion.
The Razorbacks would hold off the Reapers and win the game 38 – 26. The win would see the Razorbacks jump up to the number three seed and a potential rematch between these two teams in the playoffs.
