Game Reports:
Terrapins vs Razorbacks
A close game until the end and revenge for the Razorbacks. With the second meeting of the season between the Razorbacks and Terrapins scheduled for the day revenge was on the mind of the Razorbacks, who lost a very close game to the Terrapins in the early weeks of the season.
The opening touchdown would come on a pass to the Terrapins team captain Nick Gaudion, from QB Matt Thomas, set up previously by an interception by Pete Beausire, on an early pass attempt by QB Dan Guilbert. The Terrapins would not convert on the points after.
In response the Razorbacks would drive down the field to retrieve a touchdown thanks to the efforts of Rob Williams. The 2pt conversion would come from James Williams who caught the ball inches from the ground. The type of catch that is becoming something of a trait for one of the league’s top receivers.
Another TD would come from Rob Williams who caught a high ball half way down the field and sprinted for the end zone. The Razorbacks would not convert this. The next TD would come from the Terrapins to Pete who was wide open in the end zone. Again the Terrapins would not convert. Within a minute of scoring this TD the Razorbacks were picked off again this time by Matt Holmes who capitalised on the underpowered throw and took to the house for another 6pts. The problem of the day for the Terrapins was their inability to convert the points after, which was taking its toll on the score.
Another drive from the Razorbacks and another TD from Rob Williams who was having a great day at the wide receiver position. Again there were no points after, this may have been due to the strong coverage played by both defences throughout the game.
The game slowed down and there were a few more possessions on both sides before the stalemate was broken by James Williams, who hadn’t seen much of the end zone on this game. A nice pass from Dan to James in the top corner would increase the Razorbacks and help secure the lead. Rob Williams would then convert for 2 and have the final scoring possession for the Razorbacks on the day.
Chasing hard the Terrapins would respond with another TD from Matt Holmes who squeezed into the end zone for another 6. Frustratingly they would again fail to convert the points after.
With time on their side the Razorbacks played it safe and protected the ball from the Terrapins D who need another pick to have any chance. It paid off for the Razorbacks who took the game 28-24 .
Reapers vs Mustangs
The first time these two teams met they set a record for most interceptions in a game. This time however the Reapers would set new highs in scoring with a relentless attack led by the one of the league’s top scoring QBs, Si King. A position change for the reigning league MVP, Johan Pols, would prove beneficial with him adding two more scores to his stat sheet from the centre position, with Chris Grantham unable to play.
Defensively the Reapers leaned on their Safety Sam Barrell with four impressive interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Dan Le Cheminant added three more TDs, with Craig Batiste and Rob Domaille also adding points to the Reapers total, with Rob even coming in to spell Si at QB, to then connect with Si for a touchdown.
The Mustangs continue to play hard every single week and there is clear evidence of some top talent being developed on this team. Matt Skillet continues to show his impressive speed with a receiving TD and two interceptions. The ever elusive Josh Smale also added a long TD run. Although the score doesn’t reflect it, the Mustangs showed that they won’t ever quit as they continued to drive the ball down field to end the game.
Game finished 61 – 12 to the Reapers
Raptors vs Knights
The final matchup of the week saw the Knights face off against the Raptors. The Knights needing the win to stay at the top of the table and keep up with the inform Reapers, the Raptors also eagerly needing the win to stay in the playoff race.
The Raptors Safety James Alderton would come away with a pick against Jordan Gallienne who has only thrown 4 interceptions in total over his 7 games. This now means that he has picked off every Quarterback in the league! A well played game on both sides of the ball would keep this game extremely entertaining and tight throughout.
The Knights would keep up their form in the first half on offence but took a few drives to get going on defence. They would lose their star Quarterback at half time due to a back injury, leaving Matt Jackson to replace him. Although a clear down grade, Matt managed to put together a few good long drives and with the help of the defence would pull them through this tough game with a win. The clear MVP of the game would be Michael Falliszewski who pulled in 4 Touchdowns and 2 Interceptions on the day!
35-28 to the Knights.
