WEEK 6 2017: GAME REPORTS, STATS AND VIDEO

Game Reports:

Knights vs Mustangs

This matchup would see top of the table Knights vs. bottom of the table Mustangs face off. You may be forgiven for notching this down as an easy win for the Knights but the Mustangs would not be giving this away.

The mustangs come out fighting with their opening possession on a superb drive down field showing how they are growing and developing as a team. This drive would result in a Touchdown from stand in Quarterback Simon to David Middleton. The Mustangs offense really stepped up this week and we look forward to seeing this develop through the season.

The Knights played well on both sides of the ball to win this game, with 4 INTs on Defence and Touchdowns spread throughout the offence. Michael once again proving a force to be reckoned with, with 2 Touchdowns and 2 Interceptions!

A good game ending 33-12 to the Knights.

Reapers vs Terrapins

Game of the season? More like game of the century! The Reapers and Terrapins went head to head in week 6, both with their full squads, showing spectators exactly what our sport is about.

The game began with a steady drive by the Reapers which was felled short of the end zone by the Terrapins’ good coverage. The Terrapins were first to put up a score with a td from centre, Gary. This lead was short lived however as the Reapers made use of Craig’s speed on both sides of the ball, scoring a rushing touchdown on offence and creating pressure on the QB to set up an interception for Johan.

The Reapers kept up their usual pressure and tight coverage on defence but the speed and ability we are used to seeing from the Terrapins shined through in the form of some impressive catches and running from Luca, Charlie and Callum. Luckily for the Reapers they were able to capitalise on some well placed passes from Si to Rob and Johan showed everyone what he’s capable of when he waits for the ball to be snapped!

The real drama of this game came in the dying minutes. The Terrapins equalised at 34 apiece and with 2 minutes left in the game the Reapers drove the ball down the field, getting within 10 yards of the end zone with mere seconds left. Si drilled a pass in to the waiting hands of Dan in the end zone. The cheers of the Reapers were premature however as the ball was dropped. Si was then able to find Rob for the score, leaving 1 second on the clock. T

he Terrapins set up for their Hail Mary play and the Reapers audible squeaky bums lined up in deep coverage and managed to break up the pass. Cheers were cut short as a flag for a defensive penalty hit the field. The mighty Reapers showed once again what a defensive force they are and took home yet another win, with a final score of 40 – 36, Reapers.

Razorbacks vs Raptors

A return to form for the Razorbacks after a difficult two weeks.

This proved to be an important game for both sides who were both searching for their 3rd win of the season. The Raptors were as hungry as ever for the win with constant calls of encouragement coming from the teams touchdown leader James Alderton.

Unfortunately it was not to be their day. Today’s game saw the much the needed return of the Razorbacks team captain and starting center Marcus Lewis, giving Qb Dan Guilbert more time to pass.

The Razorbacks started the game with the ball scoring a touchdown on their first drive on a nice connection between Dan Guilbert and Rob Williams. Rob went on to convert for 1.

The Raptors would come up short on their next two drives due to some brilliant defensive play by the Razorbacks who caused a 4 and out on both occasions. The Razorbacks seemed to lose some momentum for the rest of this half on offence after being picked off twice by Jack Rommeril. The Razorbacks would respond with a pick 6 engineered by James Williams.

Identifying that they were now on the back foot the Raptors came out strong with an impressive drive marching up the field with seconds to spare in the first half. They were rewarded for their efforts as Brandon De Chiara and James Alderton would connect for a touchdown. Brandon then connected with Jack Rommeril for a 2 pt conversion. The game was close at the end of the half.

The Razorbacks came out strong in the first half, their defence stepped up again to stopped the Raptors on their first drive. This half would see another Razorback interception at the hands of their youngest member Charlie Williams.

With some speedy play calls the Razorbacks would march up the field 2 more times for touchdowns all thanks to steady quarterback play from Dan Guilbert and the trusty hands of James Williams, who scored both final touchdowns of the half. Unfortunately the Razorbacks did not convert on either and left vital points on the field. This was mainly down to a Raptors defence who refused to quit.

The final score 25-8 to the Razorbacks.
