Game Reports:
Mustangs vs Raptors
The first game of Week 5 took place on Thursday evening, the Mustangs took on the Raptors in what turned out to be an exciting game to watch. The Mustangs started well with Dave Middleton taking a pass into the endzone for the first score.
The Raptors answered with a touchdown of their own and converted for two extra points. The Mustangs managed to keep the spirit alive with a passing TD to Josh Kins, but a fired up Raptors quarterback Brandon DeChiara took command over his team and throwing some beautiful passes.
Steve Scranton was in good form, commanding his receivers but the real showcase for the Mustangs was a rushing play to Josh that took the ball into the endzone and blew away the entire Raptors defence in the process.
The Raptors answered by mirroring the rush on their next drive, an in form Luke Rabey proving his dominance at running back and trying to one up the rushing TD, taking a handoff and showing the rushing game is alive and well.
The last the drive of the game saw the Raptors take a (somewhat unnecessary) time-out, when questioned as to why, the Raptors responded in a famous last words statement with “Aldy (James Alderton) wants another touchdown!” Luckily for them, they managed to avoid embarrassment by doing just that and adding another score to their game.
Both teams looked stellar in this game and both gained some much needed momentum, unfortunately for the Mustangs, this game just didn’t go their way!
The game finishing 20-42 to the Raptors.
Reapers vs Razorbacks
The first game of week 5 saw the Razorbacks take on the Reapers, both teams started off slowly with two drives each leading to no points, both teams playing some good defense including an interception by Johan Pols.
The Reapers cranked it up a notch and drove down the field and scored their first points of the game with a great catch and run by Nick Schofield, which was the only score of the first half.
After the half the Reapers got on the board again on their first play from scrimmage with a short pass going all the way to house when Rob Domaille turned the burners on.
The Razorbacks continued to come up short on their possessions with quarterback Dan Guilbert being harassed all game by the blitz from Craig Batiste, who added another sack to his stat sheet.
The Reapers managed to get another score on the board from another long drive which resulted in a touchdown grab from Johan Pols.
The Razorbacks finally got on the score sheet in the dying seconds of the game with a nice toe drag catch from Rob Williams.
Final score 21-6 to the Reapers.
Terrapins vs Knights
The matchup between the Knights and Terrapins was expected to be an offensive battle between the two highest scoring teams in the league. This however was not to be the case with both offenses struggling to find any rhythm. The better defence on the day would pull their team through this one.
Luca as ever played well on both sides of the ball, pulling in 2 Touchdowns on the day and leading the defence in an exciting battle.
The Knights would struggle on offence in this game and did not show their full capability which we have come to expect. Praise should be given to a good performance and strategy from the Terrapins however the Knights will certainly walk away feeling that they missed a number of opportunities in this one.
Luckily for the Knights, the defence stood strong this week providing the team with an opportunity to take the lead with a Touchdown on their last drive of the game. Finally the offence came together and would drive down the field and punch it in with a Touchdown from Michael.
The Terrapins would come frustratingly close to snatching the win with a drive to the 3 yard line of the Knights endzone, however time would run out!
The Knights scrape through this one 20-18.
