Week 11: Hornets vs Terrapins

With the season drawing to a close, this Week 11 game would find itself being played on a Wedneday evening. 

Hornets would start the game with the ball and it took one pass for the to cross mid-field as Jordan Gallienne came out throwing as normal. Two plays later and Jordy would find Luke Rabey in the front right corner of the endzone for a quick first score of the game, barely 2 minutes into it! The Hornets 2 point conversion was caught by Luke Pattimore (Patti), hitting the same front right corner of the endzone.for an 8-0 lead.

Terrapins first drive would start with Luca Finetti under centre, and would begin with a toss play. Two plays later and on Luca’s second pass of the day, a quick dump off pass to Nick Gaudion ,on the left sideline, would see Nick breakaway down field for the touchdown for the swift reply. Gary Maclachlan would haul in a wobbler of a pass in the front right of the endzone to even the score at 8-8. Would we be in store for another Hornets-Terrapins shootout?

Hornets next drive would begin with a couple of incomplete passes, followed by two catch and runs by Sam Barrell (Baz) to earn a first down.  First down would see a rushing score by Luke Rabey, rushing touchdowns were a rarity for the Hornets offence all year, but Jordy clearly wanted to give his arm a rest for one play! The extra point attempt would be unsucessful, leaving the score at 14-8.

The Terrapins next drive would be cut short with an interception by Baz before the Terrapins could gain a first down. 

Hornets next drive would pick up yards in small chunks on second and third down but a fourth down incomplete pass would turn the ball over on downs.

Terrapins would, after a promising couple of plays on first and second down, one pass and one rush, would take a couple of smaller pass plays to gain a first down. A mid-drive quarterback change to Nick would see him connect with Luca on third down for a long touchdown pass into the endzone. Their extra point attempt would be incomplete, the game tied at 14-14.

Hornets would gain a first down thanks to yet another catch and run from Baz, after a couple of incompletions. A pass to Mike Donaldson, followed by another to Luke Rabey would set up a touchdown pass to Baz, who was coming across the front of the endzone. Baz would also haul in the 2 point conversion, again in the front right of the endzone. Score was now 22-14.

Terrapins drive would start with a good run by Matt Skillett, stopped by himself as he felt a tackle than hadn’t happened! Time expired before the drive could go any further, leaving the score at 22-14 at the half.

 Terrapins would begin the second half with the ball and would begin with a pass that was batted down by Staurt Keltie and a deep imcompletion. A delay of game on the third down and another incompletion would see the ball turned over on downs.

Hornets would live dangerously with Jordy’s first pass nearly intercepted deep over the middle. A pass to Mikey would move the closer to a first down, while a deep third down pass was again nearly intercepted. A fourth down pass to Baz would gain first down over the middle. The next play would be a catch and run by Keltie, would would weave his way to the endzone. The extra point attempt would go incomplete, the score 28-14.

Almost as if he was inspired by what the Hornets had been doing all day, Luca would, on first down, take his own catch, off of a short pass, and run it all the way to the endzone for the immediate reply. Terrapins extra point attempt would also be incomplete, score 28-20.

Hornets next drive would see them turned over on downs, giving the Terrapins a chance to drive to tie up the game.

Terrapins would start with another good run by Matt, followed by Gary’s long catch and run that would have been a touchdown, if not for a self-tackle! First down was well defended by Keltie, with Nick’s second down pass going incomplete, just ahead of Gary. Third down would see Josh Kins weave past three Hornet defenders on his way for the score. The extra point attempt would go incomplete, leaving the score at 28-26. 

Hornets next drive would pick up yards in small doses, as Jordy spread the ball around on the early downs. Third down would go incomplete but a pass to the ever reliable hands of Baz would convert for the first down. Keltie would grab his second touchdown of the game but catching a pass in the front right of the endzone from a rollout from Jordy. Once again the extra point attempte would go incomplete, the score 34-26.

With not much time left, the Terrapins ran the ball on first down, followed by an incompletion on second down. Ben Saul would grab a first down off another catch and run.The Terrapins were unable to capitalise and turned the ball over on downs. 

The Hornets would run the clock out on their final drive with a couple of incomplete passes. Final score 34-26.
